What it does
Connect Claude, ChatGPT or another AI app to Shulboard, and you can ask it, in your own words, things like:
- "What's on the lobby screen right now?"
- "Add a notice: the Kiddush this Shabbos is sponsored by the Cohen family."
- "Mincha is at 7:10 starting Sunday."
- "Add a yahrzeit for Avraham ben Yitzchak, 3 Kislev."
- "Make the zmanim bigger on the Shabbos board, and show me."
It works with one shul, the one you choose when you connect it, and does only what you could do in Shulboard yourself, as an owner or an editor.
Connect it
Shulboard's address for AI apps is under Connect an AI, in the menu, with Copy address. It's the same for every shul: signing in is what picks yours.
Claude
- In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors.
- Choose Add custom connector (or find Shulboard in the list of connectors, once it's there).
- Name it Shulboard, paste the address, and choose Add.
- Choose Connect. Sign in to Shulboard if it asks, choose your shul, then Connect Claude.
ChatGPT
- In ChatGPT on a computer, open Settings, then Apps.
- Choose Create app (or find Shulboard among the apps, once it's there).
- Name it Shulboard, paste the address, and choose Create.
- Choose Connect. Sign in to Shulboard if it asks, choose your shul, then Connect ChatGPT.
Once it's connected, it works in ChatGPT on your phone too.
Other AI apps
Any AI app that adds a connector by its address can connect the same way: paste the address where it adds connectors, then sign in to Shulboard, choose your shul and Connect.
What it can do
| It can | |
|---|---|
| See | The shul's screens and boards and what's on each, the notices, events, Kiddush sponsors, yahrzeits and davening times, and the shul's zmanim and the Jewish calendar |
| Add, change and delete | Notices, events and their flyers, davening times, yahrzeits and Kiddush sponsors. It tells you what it's about to save and waits for your yes. Notices and yahrzeit names it deletes go to Recently deleted, as they do in Shulboard. |
| Change how a board looks | Move and size items, change what they show and their style, or the board's look. These are Changes not on screens yet: no screen changes until you say yes to putting the board on its screens, or press Update screens yourself. It shows you a picture of the board after each change. |
It can't change your screens or which board each shows, the shul's settings, members or billing. Ask it for one of those and it says so; make that change in Shulboard.
Which shul
If you're in more than one shul, the Connect page asks Which shul?, and the AI app works with that shul and no other. To use it with another shul, connect it again and choose that one.
Stop it
Under Connect an AI, in the menu, Connected now lists every AI app connected to your account, with the shul it works with and when it was last used. Disconnect stops it straight away. To use it again, connect it again from the app.
Leaving a shul, or being removed from it, stops the AI app too: it can't reach a shul you're not in.
Privacy
The AI app reads only what you ask it to, through Shulboard, as you. Shulboard keeps a list of your connected apps and a record of each thing an app did (what it asked for and whether it worked, never what your shul typed), for 90 days. When something doesn't work, the app may offer to pass a short note on to the Shulboard team, so it can be fixed, and sends it only if you say yes. What you say to the AI app is kept by that app's own company, under its own policy. The privacy policy has the details.
If it doesn't work
- It asks you to connect again. Your connection ended: it was disconnected, or not used for 90 days. Choose Connect in the app again.
- "You're not in that shul any more." Connect it again and choose a shul you're in.
- Something's wrong or missing. Tell it. It asks whether to pass it on to the Shulboard team, and does once you say yes. Or press Get help in Shulboard, or write to support@shulboard.app.
